Reeling

2005/09/02

Many, many times my husband is better with words than I am.

We watched three hours of news programming this morning, and both of us are just sick. What happened along the gulf coast is so horrifying, and we don’t know what the hell to do. When Katrina was headed for land I couldn’t take my eyes off the television, forcing Leta to forego “Sesame Street” so that I could sit transfixed. My sister called to ask me if I was watching knowing the extent of my fears of natural disasters. Who knew it could be so awful. And that it continues to get worse makes me sick with fear, with anger, with a sense of total helplessness. It feels like the fabric of our whole society is ripping apart.

Here is a great list of links to places where we can help for those of us who aren’t close enough to drive our own cars down loaded with water, supplies, and open arms to all those sons and daughters.
