Wooden letter blocks

We gave these to Leta for Christmas a couple of years ago, and I thought we’d packed them up into a box in the attic but I found them on her floor yesterday where she had been stacking them into short words. We found them at a locally-owned toy store, and I did a search [...]

Beware of the furrocious puppy

Yesterday on a hike we met this 10-month-old Springer Spaniel who was not at all impressed by Coco Furrocious despite Coco’s incessant commands that she be taken seriously. Coco was so loud and mouthy that if you had only heard and not seen the spectacle you would have sworn that we were beating her with [...]

Boom!

Maybe because I was too young to appreciate it, but I don’t remember spring being so explosive in Memphis like it is here. Maybe it’s just because the winters here are so hideous, and spring by comparison is that much more resplendent. But everything is blooming right now and Utah couldn’t be more beautiful, although [...]

Happy Earth Day!

This letter pressed card was sent to me by a reader named Lindsay, and I thought it was such a cool gift because the card is made with handmade paper that is embedded with wildflower seeds. The instructions on the back of the card read: “Moisten paper and plant in well-drained soil one-eighth inch deep. [...]

Portrait of a lady…

… who was left in her crate for only two hours on Sunday, and when we returned home from dinner she was dripping wet from having slept in a puddle of her own urine. Jon didn’t notice this when he let her out of the crate, so she ran upstairs and was so excited to [...]

Starting her young

Saturday was the first time this year that I had the time to dedicate to some deep cleaning, so I spent several hours in the kitchen organizing drawers and cabinets. Afterward I thoroughly cleaned every surface with Leta’s help, although she just stood in one place and sprayed half the bottle of cleaner on the [...]

Hey Dad, looks like I married the right one

That’s a whole 40 cents we saved on groceries tonight, and if I had let him Jon would have stood on top of the conveyor belt at the checkout stand to proclaim his magnificence to everyone in the store, he was that proud of himself. I’ve never seen Jon use a coupon, never even suspected [...]

To replace the other song you had stuck in your head

Get ready for the most fantastic 35 seconds of your life: I have watched this video over 40 times this morning, stopping each time to cherish the look on the guy’s face at about 24 seconds in. And it gets better every time. This video is about so much more than a simple bidet, it’s [...]

Neck for breakfast

You know how sometimes you have to laugh or you’ll cry? This is one of those instances when Chuck has to lick her or he’ll kill her. Which is kind of the same thing.

Antique globe

I found this globe at The Green Ant — it lights up when you plug it in — and I think it dates back to at least the early 1950s because it shows Korea as one country. Which means it’s older than Jon. I’m not sure I can count that high.
