This kid better get used to hand-me-downs

That sound you heard was one very delighted almost five-year-old:

The upside? I will never have to grapple with the decision of whether or not to circumcise another human being. Downside… the possibility of three women in one house menstruating simultaneously.

Jon is so outnumbered. And we both could not be more thrilled.

  • Haley

    Congratulations!!! That’s so exciting!

  • Ever After

Princess Aurora it is! Congrats to the whole family!

  • Anita

The three women menstruating at the same time should not be his biggest fear – two girls menstruating and one nearing or starting menopause – my husband has already designed the blueprints for the husband apartment out back… Good luck to him.

Congrats on the news!!! I love having two little girls.

  • laura

    YAY for girl parts! Congrats!!!

  • Ellie

CONGRATULATIONS! Really, siblings just know things sometimes.

  • LIB

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you!

And, as the mother of two adult daughters I can tell you that (once they’re no longer living at home) Leta and the new one will be best friends. There will be times (while they’re living at home) that you’ll doubt this–but, it’s true.

  • Tater’s Mom

Congratulations!! You’re so lucky!! I have stalled on having our second child because I’m terrified of having another boy. Maybe I should print your ultrasound pictures and rub them on my uterus for good luck!

  • Annagrace

YES!!! Two girls is SO fun–almost hilariously frightening, seriously intense, and really, really good. So excited for you!

  • Elizabeth

Congratulations and hooray for another little girl!

  • Lisa

Yes! Girls are the best…I have 3 girls and we have so much fun. I can’t image how happy Leta is!!!! YIPEE!!!!!!

  • lizinsumner

Longtime reader/lurker just wanting to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Any names picked out yet????!!!!!!

  • con

Assuming that all else was well on the US, congrats on a healthy baby, regardless of gender! That is really the best news of all (but of course sisters rock!)

    Stay well.

  • Erin

I’m so so happy for all of you Armstrongs! Congrats to all of you, and most especially Leta for getting her very special wish for a little sister granted.

Of course, when little sister is copying everything she does, and generally being a gigantic pain, she’ll be wondering why she didn’t wish for a brother. (I only speak from experience–I’m 4.5 yrs. older than my sister.)

But congratulations to you all! What wonderful, exciting news!

  • SAHM: Surviving Assorted Home Mayhem

It is nice to have two of the same gender so they can have that bond…my boys have that and they are almost 14 years apart! Congrats!

  • Anonymous

    Congratulations! dooce

  • Melissa

    So, Princess Aurora it is!!

  • Rachel Rose

Congratulations to yourself and Jon, and I look forward to reading about Leta’s fabulous adventures with her little sister!

  • Sarah V.

Kick ass! I’m so happy for you all!

  • Daddy Scratches

    Congratulations, Armstrongs.

The getting-to-recycle-Leta’s-stuff thing is a nice bonus. (I do like having one of each, tho. My son came first, and when my daughter exited the womb, I was thrilled, not only because I would get to experience fathering a child of each sex, but also because the “should we try again for a girl?” conversation was immediately negated, and the vasectomy appointment moved to the top of the To Do list.)

  • Hayley

Delurking to tell you congrats! I’ve been reading you forever and I’m so excited to hear all the new adventures you’ll be having! Armed with meds this time! YAY for meds.

I feel your pain on this whole pregnancy thing… possibly twins, which I find out next week. Think they’d let me sell one on Etsy???

  • Lady

    Sisters are so sweet!

  • vibrantandzany

    Congrats! :)

  • DC

CONGRATS!! Hope Jon dosen’t drown in the Estrogen Ocean.

  • jill

Congrats! I also have two little girls and they could not be cuter. They do each other’s hair and went as batman and robin at halloween (totally not my decision). They love to wear princess costumes together and on rainy afternoons we all paint our toes.

I wish you much happiness. And pink feather boas.

  • cartoongoddess

Yay! Princess Aurora, right? My 6yo daughter was very impressed with that.

  • Kristen

Congrats. I have 2 girls also. Yes my husband is definatly outnumbered

  • naima

dude, you need a van now. a BIG one. any family with more than one child requires a van. because children in utah are HUGE.

    seriously, congrats!

  • Kristin A.

Congrats!!! My brother wanted to name my baby sister Light Bulb so Princess Aurora isn’t so bad. She’s my fav princess too!

  • Sarah

I just searched for all the comments on circumcision, imagining they’d run the gamut. But they all seemed to respect the idea that this is a decision that should not just be automatic.

In case anyone is performing a poll, here’s another mom and dad very happy with our decision to leave our son uncircumcised.

  • Wendy

I’m so happy for you guys! I just had my own baby girl Dec 1st and started reading your blog from your first pregnancy on. It has been so nice having something good to read during late night feedings. I have to admit that I am sad to have caught up to the current entries. I will miss the instant gratification of being able to hit the “next” button. Oh well, I will deal because your writing is great and I am hooked!

  • Joni

Congrats! We like out numbering the boys in our house too!

  • Erica

congrats to you and your ever growing family.

  • Courtney at Blogging Matilda

I squealed with delight for Leta when I read this :) Congratulations!

  • E-Lo

Excellent! Leta is probably SO excited. At least Jon has Chuck.

  • d3 voiceworks

Hooray! Maybe your grrrl and my guy (coming Feb 24) will hook up.

    Hey–it could happen.

  • LauraB

    Mazal Tov!
As much as I adore my son, I am SO glad for you that you don’t have to grapple with the circ issue, as that’s a tough one for sure. We’re Jewish and we had it done, but I think both the baby and I would have to be under general anesthesia if our next child is a boy.
Much happiness to all of you!

  • Melinda

Nothing is sweeter than a daddy who’s enamored by his daughters. Hubby hoped #2 would also be a girl, and he’s simply so good with both of them, I can’t imagine life any differently. Congrats!

  • Kelly

Congrats!!! Just curious, what were you going to do re: circumcision if it was a boy?

I’m 28 weeks prego with a boy and contemplating circumcision or not for my little boy? Debating on this is a regular at my household.
