The Red Shoes

2009/04/16

I realize I’m probably more taken with children’s books than I am adult literature, but you’d understand why if you had a kid as obsessed with books as Leta is and had to listen to her read the same ones out loud over and over again. Yes, Disney Princesses serve their purpose, and I’ll be the first one to tell you that they have on occasion made great babysitters, but I love it when she picks up something more obscure and can’t put it down. Like this book based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen with the most elegant illustrations by Sun Yung Yoo. You could cut out any page in this book, frame it, and it’d be a work of art, not to mention the fact that the story explores the relationship between a mother and daughter. Next up we’re introducing her to an illustrated version of Crime and Punishment.
