Zen master vs. toddler on meth

Jon was recently playing around with our camera and captured this riveting interview with Chuck. There's not much action here, but I don't think there exists a video that so succinctly captures the differences between Chuck and Coco:

LOL! I couldn't tell if Chuck was, as Rochelle (#6) said, blinking out of annoyance, or if he was FALLING ASLEEP!! (I mean, Jon's voice really is quite soothing.)

Either way, AWESOME video. Of both dogs.

lol Chuck reminds me of our dog, Bailey! She looks at us from the side without fully turning her head... we call it her "sketch - eye look" because she seems so sketched out like something is wrong. Funny!

Love it! Chuck is just like... yeah... if you could get that camera out of my face and stop talking to me... that would be great.

I wish my cat would hold this still for photoshoots. She tends to get camera shy and start running around like Coco in the background as soon as she sees the camera come out.

She'll do it especially if she knows that she is going to be kissed on her head soon after I'm done. She wants to be obedient and loving, but not looking forward to the upcoming sign of affection, so she's listening but acts like she's not. Ha!

Reminds me of my two kids. The older one--much calmer. The second one--well she could give Coco a run for her money. While she might not eat her own poop--she does enjoy sticking her hands into her dirty diaper to show you she needs a new one. Not quite the endearing quality one looks for in an 18-month-old girl. Like you often say--she is really lucky she is cute.

hi, heather! please send me the video -- would love to see the young kids tussling. i still have some photos of their play dates i can send you. Juice has her very own Coco now. i call her Pinko -- shepard mix i got about two years ago that antagonizes juice (and me) to no end. she is an insane animal and she talks!

here's a photo of our kids french kissing back in the day. Chuck was a different dog back then from how you depict him now. i remember him being decidedly more dog like. just bring him back to cali and he'll shape up fast. and tell Chuck that Juice says "hi" back. he was always her favorite. :-)

Henry... not so much. He's basically Satan. His crazy hair even forms little devil horns. I've been trying to get on video Henry's last resort "play with me" tactic - grabbing Max's tail in his mouth and pulling as hard as he can.

Sweet Mother of God, THE SQUEAKING.

I had to rewatch the video twice because I was so distracted by that horrifying noise.

I say that because, as the proud owner of a teething puppy whose favorite past time is seeing how many times she can squeak the squeaker in 60 seconds by chewing on her "Wubba" Kong toy. By my bleary 5:00 am estimations, it's at around 85 SPM (squeaks per minute). Problem is, she ONLY takes interest in the squeaky toys. I cherish my unchewed baseboards and ungnawed table legs too much to wean her off of them at this point.

She is hereby known in our house as Her Squeakness Who Squeaks All Day Every Day With The Squeaking.

Chuck and Coco rock. Squeak toys do not.

I hope you'll forgive that this comment both is not about Chuck and also offers unsolicited advice, but I just watched the Momversation and I want to offer the one piece of advice that helped me a lot with my second child, once I figured it out: Remember and believe that having a sibling is going to be the best thing ever for Leta, in spite of or even because of the challenges it will bring into her life. Then convey that belief in how you interact with her and the confidence you show in her. When my first would interrupt while I was, for example, trying to nurse my second baby (once he even grabbed her head and pulled her away - ouch!,) because I felt guilty for his having to share me, I'd react passively and tentatively at first, and then, as his behaviors escalated, I would snap. Once I'd thought it through and realized that he was going to survive sharing my attention just fine, I was much more firm and calm with him. Don't try to keep Leta's life unchanged -- just believe it's a wonderful change for her. (Bonus: a five-year-old will be able to help a lot -- like bring you the ringing phone while you're nursing, etc. Actually a kid as precocious as Leta could probably change diapers. Not that I'm recommending that, but I'll bet she could.)

    Good luck!

    1. I'm laughing so hard and part of it is due to not having slept in about 10 months due to my baby, who is coincidentally 10 months old.

    2. Chuck's expression perfectly captures how I felt every Monday morning on the commute in to work.

We have a very similar dynamic here. There's Emo Biscuit who seemed so lonely when our other 3 dogs died, and then there is hyper-spastic Sophie who we just got 3 weeks ago as a friend for Biscuit. Biscuit now rolls her eyes at me and refuses snuggles because I dared to bring THAT THING home. Just last night Sophie pierced Biscuit's ear. Presumably because she figures every emo dog needs a piercing.

Well, isn't that just life in a nutshell? When we're young we're carefree and crazy stupid with energy and our love of life, fun and chewy things we can shake apart with our teeth. When we're older, all the excitement is gone...and maybe even some of our teeth. And yes, slightly irritated by the youngsters around us that can still muster that enthusiasm and joie de vivre. Maybe a little irritated too by all those car questions because the real question when you're a dog and choosing a car - are the windows big enough for your head, ears and tongue to flap in the wind while you drive? I'm thinking Chevy pickup.
