Above the mess

2013/01/22

On Sunday afternoon I took a drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon all the way to the top to get out of the inversion that is swallowing Salt Lake City. I haven’t seen blue skies in weeks because of all the pollution. As I got higher and higher in the canyon I witnessed the science behind it taking place: the ground in the valley is super cold and the air above it is much warmer, trapping all that mess in a thick layer over the city. Every few hundred feet the temperature would jump a degree. At the base of the canyon it was 12 degrees Fahrenheit. By the time I reached Brighton Ski Resort at the top of the canyon it had climbed to 37 degrees.

I’m moving to Brighton Ski Resort.
