Fifth grade

Today my first-born child starts fifth grade. We found out last week that she got the teacher she wanted, and her best friend Gigi is in her class again. This takes the sting off of the fact that she has to start doing homework again and practicing piano every afternoon, a complaint I have heard more than a few times in the last few days. I finally clasped my hands around her face and said, “You do understand that this means I will be doing homework and practicing piano every afternoon. You are not alone.”

The grind begins again. Where in the hell did the summer go? And when did my baby get so big?
