Hrmph. I'm going to bite my pillow now.

Still, skiing is skiing. Even if it's snowboarding. I bet you're rAd.

  • 31. Mojo said:

I went skiing only once when I was in the third or fourth grade. All I remember was my instructor yelling "Make a piece of pizza! MAKE A PIECE OF PIZZA!" Then I fell down.

I can barely stand up on my feet in just shoes during the winter, let alone tryin' to balance on a board or long sticks. Winter sports are for people with some level of control over their own bodies. They have people like me to make the hot chocolate and be naked in the lodge when the skiiers and 'boarders are done.

  • 38. Amanda C. said:

I've been a fan of your site for a long time but have never commented. Seeing this beautiful shot from Solitude has brought out the commenter in me. I was in Utah for the first time over Christmas and skied Solitude. I think it was some of the best skiing I've ever experienced and it was absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for reminding me of that with this wonderful shot!

I like hot chocolate in the lodge. On a bear skin rug. That would be good, in front of the fireplace. Maybe with a cute guitar player strumming the strings a bit for atmosphere. Ok, maybe not in a lodge, but in a secluded cabin...and definitely naked. My husband is learning to play the guitar so that is good too...

Ahem. Wookies don't live in the snow, they live on a planet very similiar to Endor. It may snow on their planet, but it is more of a tropical climate. Unless you were refering to "Empire" and the secret base on Hoth. There was only one Wookie there and that would be *the* Wookie, Mr. Chewbacca.

You may call me names now.

B4E: You know, I agree with you about having people like me being the ones that make hot cocoa. I was going to offer to be the one hanging out in the lodge with you while everyone else skis and 'boards, but then being naked in a ski lodge sounds like it would REALLY REALLY COLD. Can I still hang out with you in the lodge if I stay dressed while making/sipping cocoa?

Can you imagine if we had proper snow like that!
If it keeps coming maybe I can snowboard to work tomorrow!

  • 79. lawbrat said:

Beautiful! Both my kids ski, and they love it! They scare me when their on skis. They like to do crazy stuff. They went last week, and the 6 year old went over 'jumps', the 10 year old did 360's. Scares me just thinking about it.

  • 80. Squirl said:

I have always said that snow is beautiful to look at. I just don't want to have to go out in it or shovel it. I'm with Bucky all the way there. Don't even ask me why I live in Michigan.

  • 81. Katie-be-bored-at-work said:

Heather, that picture is absolutely beautiful. It makes me homesick for Pennsylvania, especially since it might get to 80 degrees in Houston today. I tried skiing once, and I can say that the bunny hill doesn't teach you crap. I got on the "Beginner's Slope" and went flying down that hill at Mach 10. I almost crashed into the building at the bottom of the mountain. I never fell, though!

To all my fellow doocelings, I have followed through. Please visit my new blog. I caved into the pressure.

  • 82. gingermog said:

BFE - you would have enjoyed watching me CURL Saturday night from the warmth of the spectator booth (they serve hot choco and kaluha). First time I've curled in 12 years and I'm happy to say I only fell twice.

Aw my earlier comment didn't post. That's okay, it was a tacky joke anyway.

Those trees in the background look amazing with all that snow. Like a movie set.

Aww squirl! I hope you didn't catch the flu from visiting my site. Feel better soon!

  • 144. the niffer said:

'tis. My ass is primo killing today.

    Damn computer viruses...

CK - Curling is like shuffle board on ice. And you through the rocks with your whole body, not just your hand. It's REALLY boring to watch, but actually quite fun to play.

  • 147. Closet Metro said:

Niffer - pretty please with chocolate sauce, sprinkles, whipped cream, and a cherry on top.

    And a diamond necklace.

  • 148. Squirl said:

Tiffany, thanks, I'd take it away from you if I could. I'm not pregnant. :-)

  • 149. the niffer said:

Closet - I'm not so much into the jewelry, but an iPod might get you somewhere.

  • 150. Closet Metro said:

40 gig, mini, or a shuffle?

  • 151. Circus Kelli said:

Nif: Thanks! Now I remember what it is.

  • 152. lilyothefield said:

my mom and i were watching part of a women's curling competition on tv yesterday. we are still trying to figure out how they slide on one foot and push themselves with the other and not fall flat on their asses.

  • 153. the niffer said:

lily - depending on where you put your weight, you don't fall on your ass so much as your FACE.

Closet - 40 gig if you can manage it.

  • 154. the niffer said:

I just realized I can't spell today either.

  • 155. Dang Cold.. said:

lotta cheap defective keybaords out ther...

  • 156. lilyothefield said:

niffer- my weight decide it wants to be centered in my ass, so that's what i usually fall on.

I've never heard of snow called "pow" before--and I'm up in Canada, the land of snow--but if it works for you.....
FYI--I caved and have started a blog of my own (click the link)

    Dang! Hi Dang! *waving*

  • 159. Mamaramma said:

Circus Kelli- You said it. I have to put little booties on my dog's feet before she goes out in the yard in the morning or I'll be picking icy mud slush out of her paws all day. Mmmm, icy mud slush - that could be a novelty beverage.

Heather... you look JUST LIKE Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity, Matrix) Who else agrees?

  • 161. Mrs.Strizzay said:

I don't see it. That lady has a pointy chin.

  • 162. DeAnn said:

SNOW! In Oregon, we almost forgot what that looks like this year.

  • 163. Closet Metro said:

Stacey - I think Heather may have to post pics in the hot leather getup that Trinity wears before we can truly judge the similarities.

(I may have just invoked the wrath of the stalker-pervo patrol. So be it.)

  • 164. Circus Kelli said:

CM -- You *do* seem to be in a particularly frisky mood today. Or is it my imagination?

  • 165. greenthumb said:

Any votes for Kate Winslet??? In "self portrait" that's totally what I see.

  • 166. abbey said:

We went snowboarding once and I fell so much I finally just sat on the board, using it as a sled. that was waaay more fun!

  • 167. Mrs.Strizzay said:

I think Metro is ALWAYS frisky, and by frisky I mean looking to see chicks in tight leather clothing, or none at all.

  • 168. Circus Kelli said:

    Striz, point taken. :)

  • 169. Closet Metro said:

Circus, well, so far today I've asked for you to either get nekkid or wear sexy ski bunny gear on the bearskin rug by the fireplace, asked for pics of Niffer's "Great form", and Dooce in a hot leather outfit.

It's not just your imagination. I AM frisky.

  • 170. ashik said:

We went skiing this weekend as well...there's nothing quite like it, even though I too fell, fell and got dragged by the skis while face down, fell and lost my poles while tumbling and had to go back like a mile to get them, fell and caused others to trip over me, and fell while just standing here, minding my own business.
Oh, and then, I totally fell.

I thought snowboarding was easy once you learn the basics, is that not true?

  • 171. Dang Cold.. said:

Hi CK!! Hope you had a nice weekend. *I* was the first to comment on Katie B's new blog I must declare!!!

It's snowing in London today, which is unheard of....course, it's none of that great white stuff...it picks up the dirt in the air and lands as grey 'shit', before turning to mush and ensuring that I get both soaked and frozen on my bike ride home...

Of course, our public transport infrastructure has just collapsed too...christ knows what would ever happen here if we got any 'serious weather'...

Am loving the fact that everyone is starting blogs...how the hell am I ever going to get any work done????

  • 173. Circus Kelli said:

ashik - if by basics you mean falling down... ;)

I couldn't do more than cross-country ski to save my life.

  • 174. jes said:

I know that I have lived in Texas too long when I look at this picture and think, "is that an old tractor with snow all over it?"

And then, I couldn't figure out what the tractor was for - plowing an enormous field, fertilizing, spreading seed?

Yeah. It's been a long time since I've seen anything resembling snow. Or, better yet, a ski lift.

  • 175. bethymae said:

Am I the only dork without a blog? Sheesh am I uncool or what. My only internet access is at work, so I'm not even here if anybody asks.

Rock on dooce for telling those trolls to SUCK IT. I swear some people.
I don't envy you for the snow. We've got Daffodils coming up here. Spring has sprung!

  • 176. greenthumb said:

Dang Cold: your breaking in more than one blog this week. You were my first comment too.

    (blushes)

    Thank you for being gentle.

  • 177. Circus Kelli said:

Dang -- you are my hero. ;)
I think I was the 7th to comment on Katie B's blog. *sigh* always a "wannabe", never a "be"

  • 178. Circus Kelli said:

Matt In London: Um... work? Please describe this "work" I keep hearing about...

  • 179. Closet Metro said:

DC, it's wonderful to be surrounded by such temptresses, right?

    *wink*

  • 180. ashik said:

CK - basically, yes. I thought it was like this: 1) you spend a day falling down and sitting around on your ass, because you are just too tired to pick yourself up AGAIN; 2) the next time you do it - you can go on blue runs and be all bad ass..

Cross country skiing is the hardest I think - it's so intensive, and the pain the next morning is just AWFUL.

  • 181. Dang Cold.. said:

    *dang smokin a cigarette*

there's plenty more where that came from greeny baby

  • 182. Matt in London said:

Circus Kelli - it's the stuff I do inbetween reading about sports, babies, holidays, cars, bikes, art etc etc etc on the internet...

The great thing is we build websites, so all my surfing goes down as 'research' :-)

And with that, it's gone 6 o'clock here and I'm off home.

    Have great days / evenings....Cheerio :-)

  • 183. greenthumb said:

    LMAO!!! la;wlken f

    Oooops! fell off my chair.

  • 184. lilyothefield said:

mamaramma- you can get your dog to where boots!!!!! we tried them with out old dog, but we put them on once and she funniest high stepping we'd ever seen while trying to get them off. so, we just got used to picking the snow off and washing off the dirt. with our new dog, shine, she doesn't have enough hair to catch the snow, but she tears up the muddy yard when it thaws.

  • 185. Amanda B. said:

I saw a story about a lady that got attacked by a Mountain Lion while crosscountry skiing. That in itself is reason enough for me not to engage in it. That and my lazy lazy ass.

  • 186. Amanda B. said:

Um...well, and a complete and utter lack of snow.

    Uh huh huh..."utter".

  • 189. Mamaramma said:

Lily - oh yes. I'll put a picture of her up on my blog in them soon. She's quite the looker.
We also have a muddy yard anytime it rains or when snow melts. Damn apartment living!
    Shine's a pretty name for a dog.

  • 190. greenthumb said:

I went cross country back in '84. It was my first time and I was a strappy 16yr old who thought he could do anything. I ski'd all day long and thought this was the end all be all.

    Next morning....

    AAAAGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Dad races up the stairs thinking worst possible...gets to bed and falls down laughing. NICE!!!

  • 191. Mrs.Strizzay said:

Shine is also a good name for a rapper who takes the rap.

  • 192. greenthumb said:

Doocelings...my mac keeps telling my start up disk is full and to delete files, only, I just freed up several gigs this a.m., what's happening????

  • 193. Circus Kelli said:

Green, may I call you Green? That's when I did all my cross country skiing, too... '83, '84. I don't remember the aches and pains the next day. I was, however, 20 years younger. I'd probably kill myself if I went now.

  • 194. mihow said:

greenthumb, are you using OS9? or OSX?

  • 195. Dang Cold.. said:

I married into a family of avid pro skiers. For the second time in my life I tried it a few weeks ago at the resort they ski at and I had 5 year olds whipping past me and doing figure 8's. Can you say discouraging? Smacked right into a dad who saw me coming and shielded his 2 year old from the impact of the DC comet. Nothing injured but my pride!

    BAM!!!

  • 196. greenthumb said:

I have been reading this website for a few months now,but just recently started reading the comments section. I noticed yesterday that some girl was also new and suggested something to dooce about autism. It didn't come across as rude, just compassionate to me. I'm just wondering, are we not allowed to make suggestions on here, even if they are heartfelt? Is that why the comments got turned off? I don't really have a problem with it if heather doesn't appreciate adivice, but I just want to know the unwritten rules so I don't piss anyone off. Thanks

  • 198. Closet Metro said:

green - have you rebooted since you deleted the files? are the files still in your trash bin? (I'm a windows guy, not mac, but that would fix it if you were using Little Bill's OS)
