beautiful. i say my very fist hummingbird in our new home after planting a million lantanas and a butterfly bush. i now see them almost on a daily basis. amazing creatures. your shot is beautiful.

I love hummingbirds. There's something about taking a picture every day...It's like this record of the millions of thing in life that you see and instantly forget. So many moments gone but here it's like you saved one. Just one but a beautiful one.
I hope you don't mind if I copy this idea (not as a blog idea but as a kind of personal experiment to see what I forget I saw in the course of a year).

Next time I have a couple grand burning a hole in my pocket, I might have to add a Nikon D70 to my camera collection. My manual-focus Minolta, 2.1 megapixel Fuji digital, and Lomo LC-A could all use some company. :-)

I live on the purportedly snake infested island of Guam. Oh how I'd love to be able to put out a feeder and actually have birds come and ... feed. Much less, take photos of them. Don't get me wrong, we have some birds ... and Mariah Carey had nothing to do with them. All in all, if I were to one day wake to the melodious sound of bird song, I would probably say the same thing I said my first morning in Hawaii... SHUT UP!!! Oh and I love the revamp and I still say $1 for every posted comment.

My sister says that a zoo in Germany has cows. Everyone ooh's and ahh's when they see those cows. My friend regularly has four and five hummingbirds on her feeder. I think she spikes their food. Heather, you're a woman to admire, not hate.

I adore your site. I'm sure EVERYBODY says that to you, but I do. I've been reading it for a while and have you linked on my site and just LOVE it. I also am anamored (sp? I can't spell...) with the cow bells. My dad grew up on a farm. I've heard lots of cow stories ;).
The reason for this comment is your "about" page really - funniest about page I've read in a while. And being in my early 20's and feeling desperately lost and like life will never change it's kind of nice to read how someone elses life went in all crazy directions and now you seem so content :) It's just great to know you on the 'net!

The D70 usually comes with a Nikkor 18-80mm lens, if that is any help in determining what focal length was used.

If you're feeling really camera-geeky, there's actually a plugin for Movable Type that will read the EXIF information from your photos.

(For those not familiar with EXIF, it's basically a bunch of metainformation stored with your image when the camera takes the photo, like whether you had the flash on, what the shutter speed and focal length was, etc.)
