The color of princess fingernails

On one of the days that Leta was sick we painted her fingernails to try and make her feel a little better, and she loved it right up until we told her she couldn't touch anything or use her hands until her nails had dried. In her mind she thought that when they dried the color would go away, so when the color never faded she started to panic, like she was never going to be able to use her hands again. Finally the panic wore her out and she started to fade into sleep on the couch, and with a start she sat up and yelled, "But I just want to suck my thumb!" It was like her final wish before dying.
