Two nights ago Hogle Zoo had to euthanize one of its three female African elephants after she battled a mysterious illness for weeks. Her name was Misha. I doubt that either one of these was Misha, but the fact that I was there as recently as Sunday makes this situation just a tad more heartbreaking. I love these animals as fiercely as I love the hippo, and because Jon won’t let me adopt one this will probably be the closest I ever get to one.
