Looking southwest

The only Great Lake I’ve ever seen previous to last week was Lake Michigan, usually from a hotel room along the water in Chicago. I’ve never really pondered the topography and shape and arrangement of the lakes, but now that I’ve driven along the coast of Lake Huron and kayaked around a few islands I’m obsessed. I can’t stop looking at maps. Such a different way of life on the water, and a part of me got really sad that my kids aren’t growing up with that kind of recreation all around them. I totally understand how anyone who has grown up with *this* at their doorstep might never want to leave it.

Carol, I think I finally get Minnesota.
