Stone Town

A couple of hours before we got on a plane in Zanzibar to fly back to Dar es Salaam to start the journey home from Tanzania, we took a stroll through the streets of Stone Town, a flourishing and gorgeous city on the west side of the island. It’s architecture dates back to the 19th century and is a strangely beautiful mashup of Arab, Persian, Indian and European features. One street looked like Venice, the next street over like New Delhi.

And it was hot. Oh my god. So hot. Not as hot as Dar es Salaam, but definitely a runner up. All of us needed showers before boarding the plane back home but no such luck. But probably not as unlucky as the people who had seats around us.
