Line of the sky

On Saturday afternoon the girls and I spent some time with my family at my sister’s house. This is the view from her front yard. I remember the first time I ever visited Utah and the feeling I had when looking at that wall of mountains, so close I could almost touch it, constantly taking my breath away. For a kid who’d grown up along the flat horizon of Western Tennessee, I couldn’t comprehend how people who lived in Utah could deal every day with the enormity of that.

Now I take for granted that this is right there. People will visit and go wide-eyed when they see these jagged beauties, and I’m like, oh yeah. Those. I really need to stop and find that Tennessean kid again.
