Feral DNA

While on this trip to Haiti one of the members of our group who hasn’t traveled to many places where feral dogs roam the streets looking for food commented that she was amazed at how similar they all look. I broke out a photo of Chuck and the wisdom of Chuck’s trainer and told her that this is what happens where dogs routinely interbreed freely. Chuck is pretty much what the litter would look like if all breeds of canines were intermingled and then intermingled again, which is why people send me pictures of feral dogs from all over the world going, “Is this Chuck’s long lost twin?”

My answer is usually, “If that dog is an asshole then there is a pretty good chance.”
