Hand-carved wooden bird

I hadn't been to my favorite local antique store, The Green Ant, in several months, and since I was in the neighborhood earlier this week I popped in for a tiny gander. We don't need any more furniture, so I browsed all the little things and found this tiny bird. It's maybe three inches high by four inches wide. Makes me wonder who carved it and the life he was living, and did he know that one day a unkempt Southern woman living in Utah would buy it and then put a photo of it on her Internet Website Blog Page? While listening to satellite radio being streamed through her computer connected wirelessly to the speakers in her kitchen?
