A reading rainbow
Marlo’s favorite book for awhile now has been, no surprise, Pinkalicious. It’s the book she always asks me to read before bed, and it’s gotten a little frayed around the edges. I recently found out that there are a few follow-ups to this book: Purplicious, Silverlicious, Emeraldalicious, and Goldilicious. So I decided to surprise her with fresh copies. It was as if I had trotted in a pony with a pink bow tied in its mane, that kid went so nuts. And Leta being the incredible older sister that she is didn’t feel slighted that the haul was all for Marlo. In fact, she sat in the floor with her to help her read each book aloud. Or should I say, to endure the constant refrain, “THAT’S NOT WHAT IT SAYS.”
At one point when Leta had read a paragraph and Marlo told her once again that she had read the whole thing wrong, Leta looked up at me and asked, “Was I this stubborn when I was her age?”
“Leta,” I said while shaking my head. “You invented stubborn.”
