Youth Lagoon is one Trevor Powers, a 22-year-old college student from Boise, Idaho who spent most of 2010 writing songs about the things in his life that he found it difficult to talk about out loud. He suffers from extreme anxiety, and the process of writing this music helped him articulate what he was feeling. Maybe that’s why this album has sucked me in, a gravitational force I couldn’t fight.
Because that is what I have used this platform for, here and there, when I couldn’t speak. Sometimes I don’t know how to process what I’m feeling until I write it down, and this has at times been frustrating for Jon, but he’s glad that I have this to help me through it.
His sound is part Fleet Foxes, part Sigur Rós, part dreamy honey wool blanket in a cabin covered with snow.
This is one of my favorite songs on the album, The Year Of Hibernation.
And here is a masterful video for the song “Montana.”
