Oh goodness me. I can only hope to have such a cute child. How can you make it through the day without eating her up every second? Ohh yes, right! When a child wakes up screaaaaming, that lessens the cuteness factor somewhat.

I thought that was Snoopy sneaking up on Leta from behind before I realized that was the frog’s EYE.
Either way, I am sufficiently creeped out (but also enchanted, of course, by the beauty that is Leta).
    Happy Halloween kids!

    2004/10/31 at 1:16 pm

Adorable! Old Navy, right? My 2nd son wore the same one once. It really is an adorable costume! Leta is beautiful. I love the wrinkly nose!

Note to Annie: Unless everyone else knows something I don’t know, trick or treating happened last night here in good old Utah (I hope we don’t get any trick or treaters tonight – I don’t have any candy!). In fact, the Mormons in my sister-in-law’s (the only Catholic family on the block, apparently) neighborhood made it clear that there was to be NO TRICK OR TREATING in their neighborhood, PERIOD. Hmph. The nerve!

    2004/10/31 at 2:38 pm

thank you – i was having a crappy day and i have been anxiously awaiting leta’s costume debut 🙂

oh btw, last night at my parent’s house, this church went around going door to door handing out these papers printed with stories about how trick or treat orginated in europe when peasants had to give tax collectors treats and if they weren’t good enough they would be burned alive in an altar to satan -it said on the pamphlet “those who claim to see the light should not walk in the darkness” and then talked about how tempting satan would send you to hell. i was going to scan the whole little handout and email it to you but i forgot it at my parent’s house. there are a lot of fanatical crazies and creepy little *indpendent* churches here in central west virginia….my mom tried to get the little kids to take the candy anyway but their mom got mad and ordered them back into the van and scowled at us

  • Annie

    2004/10/31 at 2:41 pm

No trick or treating on actual Halloween? That…I have no words. I am appalled.

On that note, I’m a big fat hypocrite. Some adorable kids came to the door, and I don’t have any candy here tonight. I am a BAD PERSON.

    2004/10/31 at 2:55 pm

Ok, Dooce, are you calling Benjamin Franklin a dickhead? (I think he was the one who thought up daylight saving time…or was it Richard Nixon?) Either way, it’s no fun to “Fall Back” if you don’t actually get to SLEEP for the extra hour. Sorry Leta didn’t get the memo.

can I just say that your child is so cute, if I knew her, I would squeeze her guts out on a daily basis. She’s adorable. I love her little expressions. My son is now 7 yrs old and I miss the babyness…by the way I live in Logan – everytime you write about Utah things, I nod agreeingly..snow on Halloween, conservative Mormons…etc. I love your BLOG. I have 3 I read religiously..You, a merch gurl for my favorite singer, and Margaret Cho..you rank high on the cool blogs of the world…keep up the good work, love you love your show!

    OH. MY. GOD.
    She is SO beautiful!!
If I had a baby like that in my house, I would bite her fingers and toes ALL THE TIME! And kiss her and hug her ALL DAY LONG!
I must avoid the urge to just pich the PC.

    2004/10/31 at 3:09 pm

Heather, I feel your pain on the daylight savings time. My 8 month old did the same thing today – we’ve been up since 5:30 am. What I’d do for a sleep in! *whine*

Happy Halloween! Ethan’s a bear to your Leta-Frog (the original frog baby!). Boo!

Oh she is absolutely lovely. I want a baby (until I look at the toddlers I have and then I just never want to go through that again) The frog outfit is perfect, but does anyone else want to see chuck??

Great photo, it looks like it could make the parenting magazine. As for the time change: my partner and I were listening to the news last evening and they reported the end to daylight savings….except in the praire proviences…….oh, the thought of moving was so temepting. Then I thought, why don’t they have to experience their 8 month old, with a cold and teething his third tooth waking at 4:45 a.m. We decided not to change the clocks back until the morning when our daughter rises, at reasonable 7:00 a.m.
    Happy Holloween!

Oh, she made me laugh out loud. Just so adorable and completely huggable.

We don’t usually do the Halloween thing in Australia, I so wish we did if it’s filled with gorgeous kitted-out babies like Leta.

Heather B. Armstrong

Hi. I’m Heather B. Armstrong, and this used to be called mommy blogging. But then they started calling it Influencer Marketing: hashtag ad, hashtag sponsored, hashtag you know you want me to slap your product on my kid and exploit her for millions and millions of dollars. That’s how this shit works. Now? Well… sit back, buckle up, and enjoy the ride.
