On the right side of this photo you can see part of the seven-mile causeway that connects Antelope Island to Syracuse, Utah. I had heard that the bugs out there this time of year can be particularly bad, but I didn’t see any until one very specific spot while leaving the island on that causeway. It was like driving through a hail storm. The windshield was coated in bug guts, and the front of my white car was black with a glaze of dead bug bodies. I’m surprised the hood wasn’t dented from the force of the swarm.
