Insatiable

Last weekend it rained all day long, both Saturday and Sunday, just sheets and sheets of water out of the sky for hours on end. Since this is not a normal phenomenon in Utah Marlo was perched at the window both days.

“Can I got outside again?” she’d ask.

I’d finish a task I was performing inside, like folding one of the seven loads of laundry I had to do, and then let her step into her rain boots, grab the princess umbrella and head out into the puddles. In her princess costume.

She’d be out there for about half an hour before heading back to the door to announce, “Okay, I’m done. FOR NOW.” And did she ever mean those last two words. Because we did this again and again and again.

I hope her memories of this are as vivid as the ones I have of watching her enjoy it.
