the smell of my desperation has become a stench

My ailing Butternut

Marlo has had the stomach flu for the last two days and has been confined to the couch or my bed or the bathroom because of lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and a steady fever. Her doctor said this morning that it’s going around. In fact, when she walked in the room she had this look on her face like, oh god not another one.

I’m trying to keep her hydrated and am having a hard time getting her to understand that berry-flavored medicine is a modern miracle. She spit out three different sweetened flavors of Ibuprofen, and I wish I could show her the memory I have of my dad having to sit on my arms and legs to hold me still enough to get medicine down my throat.

I hope this doesn’t last much longer because I miss my energetic Lil Donette. That and neither of us is getting any sleep.

Heather B. Armstrong

Hi. I’m Heather B. Armstrong, and this used to be called mommy blogging. That’s how this shit works. Now? Well… sit back, buckle up, and enjoy the ride.
